Top 5 Home Tech Gadget Gifts 2018

Homes are important to us here at Shoreline, so you’ve moved in or are about to? What now do you get for your special someone who is obsessed with tech and gadgets? We are coming to your rescue with 5 ideas for the latest and greatest tech gifts for your new home!

1) Amazon Echo Dot third-gen

Amazon's latest Echo Dot still costs $50, but it has an improved design and sound. This third-generation model can also work as a stereo pair, so snag two Dots and use them together for even better audio. The new Echo Dot comes in black and medium and light gray finishes, which look good, but you don't get the same range of color options as the Google Home Mini's charcoal, aqua, chalk and coral finishes. This affordable device is still a great entry-point into voice control and smart speakers.

2) Belkin WeMo Mini WiFi Smart Plug

Belkin's WeMo Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plugs are priced well at $25 a pop. It also has a smaller design than other smart plugs that won't block other outlets. It connects over Wi-Fi and it's compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Siri, Google Assistant and IFTTT. The one thing it can't do that other smart plugs can is track the energy consumption at the outlet -- if you want that in a Belkin product, you'll need to spend $50 for a WeMo Insight Switch.

3) Google Home Hub

Google's Home Hub is a $149 smart display. It has a smaller screen than competitors like the $230 Amazon Echo Show, the $250 Lenovo Smart Display and the $200 JBL Link View. It also doesn't have a built-in camera. Instead, it's equipped with an ambient light sensor that auto-adjusts the screen's brightness and warmth to suit the room. The Home Hub is a great option if you want a more affordable display without a camera.

4) Philips Hue White LED Starter Kit

The $70 Philips Hue White LED Starter Kit is a solid choice if you want basic smart LEDs that don't change color. They work with Amazon's Alexa, Apple HomeKit, IFTTT and the Nest Learning Thermostat. For your 70 bucks, you get two white light LEDs and a Philips Hue ZigBee hub. You can turn them on and off, dim them and more from the app -- or use voice commands. Philips is a staple in smart lighting and this entry-level kit is a decent place to start.

5) Wyze Cam Pan

This Wyze camera costs just $30. That's a ridiculously low price considering it has 1080p HD live streaming, free 14-day cloud storage and optional local storage. It works with Alexa and IFTTT and has motion detection zones, too. The Wyze Cam Pan can also listen for smoke and CO alarms and send you related alerts. You can't do much better than this camera if you're looking for a super affordable smart indoor security camera with a lot of features typically reserved for more expensive models.

All these options are sure to please that tech addict and elevate your homes smart level!

Introducing The Okatie Model

We have recently completed a project we are so proud to show off as our Hampton Lake Model. We call this plan the Okatie and she is an absolute jewel!

We have recently completed a project we are so proud to show off as our Hampton Lake Model. We call this plan the Okatie and she is an absolute jewel! The open floor plan boasts 2700 sq feet on the main floor and a 500 sq ft bonus room that has amazing views of the lake, along with a bunk space and ample storage. With 3 bedrooms and 3 baths downstairs there is plenty of room for your kids, friends, grandkids and extended family to be comfortable during their stay!

The well appointed kitchen is open and yet has amazing storage and high end features. A large island for food prep and hanging out anchors the space while the custom trim details on the beams, columns and ceiling in the dining area, defines it as its own room, while still being open to the kitchen and living area.

Outdoor space is everything in the Lowcountry and this screened porch is amazingly equipped for just that. Plenty of room for a large dining table and an outdoor living area with couch, chairs and tables make it easy to enjoy evening meals or game time outside. The front porch is inviting as well, with columns to welcome your guests, a huge front door that lets in light and picture windows to frame the space. The perfect place for some rocking chairs for an afternoon glass of wine.

This plan also has a large office space that can be shut off for privacy or opened up for even more open flex space.

The master is large, has amazing views from its huge windows and has the most luxurious bathroom you’ve seen. A floor to ceiling glass walk in shower is the show stopper in this space along with his and her separate vanities and an amazing soaking tub to top it off.

Did I mention, we bake cookies fresh every morning? Come by and see this gorgeous home and grab a cookie, coffee, wine, champagne, water or even juice box and a treat for your puppy!!! We’d love to show this one off!

5 Tips to create a sanctuary at home

Sure everyone puts time and design into kitchens and baths, but when is the last time you put in major thought into the room you actually spend the most time in….. your bedroom. Here are some tips to make this room feel more like an at home oasis than just an afterthought in the design world.

1 Use calming colors:

By using colors that are calming and leaving the “accent” wall for another space, it draws you into to the room and gives you that sense of relief and relaxation rather than excitement and stress. We love using a mix of dark and light in this space that can both be used as calming.

2 Invest in amazing bedding:

There are so many companies out there now that specialize in amazing sheets. This seems so ridiculous to think about, but how much difference does a great set of sheets make? Huge! Just walking in and looking at a well made bed with high end sheets and bedding can make the difference between wanting to climb in and finding one more chore to complete. The colors should complement the décor around it and be easy to clean.

3 Shop around for the perfect mattress:

You can’t get away from all the commercials about the “perfect” mattress for you. Whether it comes in a box, delivered from a store or is one that you’ve had in the family, make sure it is perfect for you and your partner.

4 Make the closet a priority:

This is what brings the most stress in a master bedroom. If your closet is unorganized, messy and overflowing it makes for bad thoughts every time you walk in the room and think about all the work to fix it. Make the closet design one of the beginning conversations when thinking about building or renovating. It doesn’t seem that important but you will certainly be glad you did when you are unpacking those boxes and all your things have specific places to go!

5 Get both partners input on décor:

Design of this particular room should spark plenty of conversations from everyone involved. This is where both partners will go to relax, sleep and rejuvenate on a daily basis and it should incite feelings of calmness to both. There are always great ways to compromise with colors and décor. Such as going darker in the wall color or trim and lighter in furniture and bedding or even vice versa! There is always a way and here at Shoreline, our designers make sure each of these are discussed and your master bedroom is the retreat you had always dreamed of!
